The Department of History of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established in March 1991. At the beginning, as part of a small group of historical teachers (Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor T. Z. Rysbekov, Professor G. A. Kushaev, associate Professor R. Z. Mukanova, teachers A. O. Amirov, O. V. Simakov, T. S. Zhumagambetov, M. K. Syrlybaev, T.Nurpeisov). The transformation of the Pedagogical Institute into the West Kazakhstan Humanitarian University in 1996 allowed the department to set new, complex goals and objectives. Postgraduate studies with full-time and correspondence departments have been opened at the department, activities have been carried out to direct candidates of sciences engaged in doctoral dissertations to doctoral studies, internships and Retention in the teaching staff of graduates with the ability to scientific research, etc. As a result, in the mid-90s, the first graduate students of the department under the scientific supervision of T. S. Zhumagambetov, academician K. M. Baypakov, S. S. Krivobokova, A. S. Tasmagambetov, Professor T. Z. Rysbekov, M. N. Sdykov, academician M. H. Asylbekov, intern B. K.Birimzharov defended his doctoral dissertations under the scientific supervision of academician K. N.Nurpeisov. The staff of the department is still constantly replenished by young scientists.
In connection with the change in the structure of the university, starting from 2000, the material and technical base was strengthened, teaching and laboratory, museum and exhibit rooms were equipped, and provided with technical means, including a computer system. Since 2003, the Department of Magistracy has been opened. By the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, since January 1999, the dissertation council for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences in the specialty "07.00.02 – History of the Fatherland (History of the Republic of Kazakhstan)" was opened. In 2003, the term of the dissertation council was extended, and since June 2005, based on the decision of the Committee for Supervision and certification in the field of education and science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it was transformed into the joint doctoral dissertation council in the specialty "07.00.02-National History (history of the Republic of Kazakhstan)". Over the years, more than 50 applicants and postgraduates from different regions of Kazakhstan have defended their dissertations and occupied scientific positions from the dissertation council. In 2003, the Archaeology Museum was opened at the department, which exhibits artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations and expeditions since 1967. The museum exhibit is updated annually with new exhibits.
The Department of History of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the University currently has great success in conducting scientific research and has actually become a major scientific center in the field of national history of the West Kazakhstan region. In 2014-2019, professors Rysbekov T. Z., Akhmetova U. T., Baibulsinova A. S., Serikova L. S. received state grants "The best university teacher" at the department. Today, the scientific and pedagogical potential of the department is at a high level. It consists of 3 doctors of Sciences (professors T. Z. Rysbekov, M. N.Sdykov, M. K. Abilseit), 1 associate professor, 4 Candidates of Sciences, associate professor, 1 PhD doctor, senior teachers and 5 Masters of Science.
Currently, the department is the residence of Kazakhstan, conducting joint work on academic mobility and a joint curriculum-issledatelsko works with assigned and valuable subjects, scientific and authoritative sites, signed 28 agreements, with 8 and 2 memorandum centers.
